How to draw pencil portraits

Have you ever been walking down the street more than likely in a tourist part of your town or city and seen people sitting there in a chair sketching people's portraits?

And thought to yourself either a) I could do that or b) I wish I could do that.

Now I am willing to guess that a majority of the readers fall into category b?

Am I right?

Well I know I am right since there are very few people that can do pencil portraits.

If this were not true instead of seeing one maybe 2 people doing them  you would see dozens.

Have you even ever tried to do a pencil portrait?

If you haven't trust me it is very difficult to do.

In fact while I was attending university I took a class and was discouraged from continuing it by my instructor!

Yes you heard me correctly he actually took me aside and said I really don't think this course is for you!

Being extremely stubborn and somewhat pigheaded I decided to try again.

But at a lower level.

I attended a night course put on at a junior high school close to where I was living.

I purchased enough pencils etc to last me several life times.

I did manage to get through this complete course by being very quiet and sitting at the back of the class.

That way the instructor would hopefully not bother me as my severely deformed portraits came out of the tip of my pencil.

I really wish I would have saved some of those disfigured pencil portraits that I produced.

Since they would have been good for a laugh now but at the time they were a source of great embarrassment.

So after 2 unsuccessful attempts at learning how to draw pencil portraits I gave up.

Hanging my head in shame and defeat I retired my sticks of disfigurement.

Then I went on a holiday and guess who I saw on the street?

Yes you got it the guys sitting there in their comfy chairs doing you know what.

Drawing pencil portraits.

So my desire to learn how to draw pencil portraits was suddenly reignited.

But I had to figure out a way where I could produce my monstrosities in a place free of ridicule.

Where no one would judge me regardless of how bad they were.

And trust me they were hideous.

If I were to ever show the person whose portrait picture I drew from I am sure they would have slapped me right in the face.

But luckily I stumbled across this great product.
